<p>   The payment volume of small business credit cards is growing at twice the rate of credit cards overall.&#13;

   Small business credit cards benefit from superior commercial card interchange and higher payment volumes per account than consumer cards.&#13;<br />
&#13;<br />
   The small business segment is dynamic, with new prospects emerging continuously, and businesses growing in their financial needs.&#13;<br />
&#13;<br />
   There is a major opportunity to leverage existing small business relationships, as well as prospecting within retail consumer credit card portfolios.&#13;</p>
<p>Key challenges of serving the market, as the report examines, are addressing the needs of the surprisingly complex sub-segments within the small business market, which include sole proprietors through firms up to 100 employees.  For many large banking institutions, it is also a challenge to capture the opportunities embedded in their current retail credit and small business debit portfolio&#8217;s.   </p>

<p>The small business segment may be messy from a segment viewpoint, but tools and techniques available to issuers to address the opportunity are improving, as the report illustrates.  Rapidly growing data repositories and advanced analytic tools are helping issuers to identify prospects both at home (in debit and retail credit files) and through direct marketing.</p>

<p>Understanding the emerging role of small business debit in the segment is critical.   Ken Paterson, Director of the Credit Advisory Service at Mercator Advisory Group and the author of this report comments that; &#8220;An important strategic issue for the future is the influence of debit in the small business market.  Seemingly little attention has been paid to debit in this segment, yet there are about 8 million small business debit accounts in place &#8211; perhaps one of out of three small businesses.  Just as debit growth is affecting credit card growth on the retail side of the equation, debit is of growing importance in the small business credit segment.  Positioning small business credit offerings with regard to debit, and perhaps offering dual debit/credit programs will be of increasing importance.&#8221;</p>

<p> On December 8, Small Business Trends awarded its Reader&#8217;s Choice and Editor&#8217;s Choice Awards for the 2009 top small business books, just in time for holiday shopping (and reading). </p>

<p>They have presented these awards for the second year to ensure that these books, often written by entrepreneurs, get recognition among other small business owners. This year, Small Business Trends expanded the process by soliciting nominees for the initial Reader&#8217;s Choice list, and instituting a formal voting process. To qualify, books had to appeal to small business personnel, entrepreneurs, freelancers or the self-employed and had to be newly published (or revised) during 2009. More than 4,000 votes were cast, along with 200 write-ins. The voting was close; there were roughly a dozen books that missed the top 10 by a small margin.</p>

<p>The 2009 Best Small Business Book Editor&#8217;s Choice awards this year also had an added dimension, including voting by an Advisory Panel of 27 small business experts, as well as the Small Business Trends editors. <p> Imagine traveling from NY to Los Angeles by car in 10.5 hours, while the Rail system you are running on is producing enough extra hydrogen to power 70% or more of the NationÂÂs entire energy demand at no extra charge?  Sounds impossible?</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>DonÂÂt bet against it. If a young group of dedicated pioneers have their way, within a year ground could be broken on a new kind of accelerated highway across America that runs on clean-burning Hydrogen-powered MAGNETIC LEVITATION (MagLev) Rails, transporting automobiles, freight and people at up to 250 MPH. An article about this unusual project appeared in the ACSA Advances Magazine  (http://www.acsa2000.net/hshrt) recently.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>This new, so-called ÂÂHydrogen Super HighwayÂÂ, the ÂÂTrailblazerÂÂ, is one that can almost silently carry cars, passengers and freight between major metropolitan areas &#8211;reportedly with absolutely no fuel cost, and an amazing benefit. If all goes well: once completed ÂÂTrailblazerÂÂ could potentially produce enough excess hydrogen from its built-in solar panel arrays to POWER ALL of AMERICA, say proponents, with near zero environmental consequences.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Unlike today&#8217;s oil, coal and nuclear fuels, hydrogen from solar cells has no long term toxic emissions, and produces only oxygen and clean water. A new process, &#8216;Amorphous Silicon Thin Films&#8217;, produces high output solar cells without many of the environmental byproducts of previous solar cell manufacture. And so, America could very well be powered by a new source of sustainable, clean hydrogen before not very long, if the Trailblazer is built!</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The ÂÂTrailblazerÂÂ is designed so that long distance travelers and freight can travel in style, at very low cost. Stations at key locations and emergency centers provide services for the system at no extra cost.  Even propelling vehicles at 250 MPH, the new system will still have enough Solar Panel energy available during daylight hours to produce additional Hydrogen for sale to business and the general public in abundance, says the Interstate Traveler Company (http://www.interstatetraveler.us).  </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The hydrogen fuel provided by the Trailblazer for general use is called ÂÂHydrolineÂÂÂÂ by the ACSA (the American Computer Scientists Association Inc. ÂÂ http://acsa.net). </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>HydrolineÂÂ is a slightly compressed form of Hydrogen obtained when electrons from a Solar Energy panel are fed to ordinary water. It is cooled and stored within the ÂÂConduitÂÂ that is part of the Rail system. When needed, it is fed to Fuel Cells for electricity production or to HydrolineÂÂ powered internal combustion engines which burn the fuel cleanly, yielding only water and heat. </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The startup company, Interstate Traveler Company, (http://www.interstatetraveler.us) has been ÂÂadoptedÂÂ by the American Computer Science Association as ÂÂthe wave of the future, now!ÂÂ According to the ACSA, who has studied the companyÂÂs plans in depth, ÂÂTrailblazerÂÂ advances a truly revolutionary technology solution: one which has broken down the barriers to a ready supply of cheap, hydrogen energy for the future clean energy economy of America.</p>

<p>Dr. Jack A. Shulman, VISTA (the Very Innovative Science and Technology Advances Laboratory at ACSA) Coordinator stated:  </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>ÂÂThe Secretary of the US Department of Energy recently advised that we buy 98 Quadrillion BTUs of Energy every year in America.  He says we will need 120 Quads by 2020.  We spend nearly 0 Billion on energy annually.  It looks to us at ACSA like Mr. SuttonÂÂs Interstate Traveler solution will change everything. It will make it far easier to get from Washington to Chicago in 3 hours. If it works, its Hydrogen from Solar production system could reduce the entire cost of energy in America by 0 Billion per year by the end of its first construction year, 200 Billion its second year, 0 Billion the third, 0 Billion in the fourth. If the companyÂÂs estimates are correct: by the end of the Fifth year the Interstate TravelerÂÂs built-in Solar to Hydrogen converters could be paying for nearly all of AmericaÂÂs Energy Needs.ÂÂ</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>ÂÂThat&#8217;s great news for America! It could spell an end to dependency on non-sustainable energy sources like oil and coal, and an end to our dependency on foreign fuel, while can be redirected to making lubricants, chemicals and plastics.ÂÂ</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>TrailblazerÂÂs high speed MAGLEV transit system does represent a unique scheduling, piloting, energy management and maintenance opportunity for any automation system.  But, reportedly, representatives of such major companies as Sun Microsystems and Microsoft appear to agree that it could route its Rail cars, in high volume and at high velocity, about the same way the Internet schedules itself. That would allow the MAGLEV Rail Cars to carry people, autos and freight at 250 MPH and switching off to a future elaborate ramp of commuter branches. When offloading, drivers would have the to ÂÂgas upÂÂ from the inexpensive hydrogen at the off-ramp they the system at their destination.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>ÂÂThen, what we call ÂÂGas StationsÂÂ today would truly be ÂÂGAS stationsÂÂÂÂ stated Dr. Shulman with a twinkle in his eyes.  ÂÂWhile the Interstates are 54,000 miles long, ITC could also build along the 90,000 or so miles or Rail Corridors, tripling the Hydrogen output. It will also have enough fiber optic cabling within its to massively expand todayÂÂs Internet backbones by an order of magnitude.ÂÂ</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Dr. Shulman commented: ÂÂObviously, this solution solves many problems, and is highly scalable. Yet its key is the HydroSolÂÂ process used to produce HydrolineÂÂ (Hydrogen in a storable, slightly compressed form, or HydrolÂÂ for short). ACSA was always attracted to Hydrogen from Solar (HydroSol) Energy, because: ÂÂonce commercially rendered feasible, it is the cleanest, soundest way to obtain energy. One is literally &#8216;mining Sunlight for electrons&#8217; and then, converting ordinary water into Hydrogen and Oxygen with it.  In this case, the Hydrogen HydrolÂÂ is not only clean burning, whatever it takes from the environment, it puts nearly all of that back ÂÂ heat, water, oxygenÂÂ and it can do nothing but improve the EarthÂÂs atmosphere, not even a trace of pollution is available from a Hydrogen engine or Fuel CellÂÂ&#8221;</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The Interstate TravelerÂÂs conceiver, Justin Eric Sutton, has been described by the ACSA as: ÂÂan extraordinary scientist and an outstanding and brilliant entrepreneur, who has hit upon an amazing multi-disciplinary solution to problems that face us in America today, namely: energy and how to obtain it cleanly and inexpensivelyÂÂ.   Dr. Shulman recently indicated that he felt that Sutton (and his partners) will eventually take his place among the ÂÂgreat pioneersÂÂ in American History, such as Howard Hughes, Wiley Post, Robert Moses, Alexander Graham Bell, Henry Ford and others.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The Interstate TravelerÂÂs transit system is said to use new medium size Automobile Carriers and small passenger/freight carrying MAGLEV cars which would travel between cities at breathtaking speed. Interest in the new system has ranged far and wide, including some pretty powerful state government bodies such as the State of Oklahoma and the State of Michigan, reportedly. And it has reportedly interested many in the big three Automobile manufacturers and abroad.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The Trailblazer has been designed with Safety in mind, and Security, with emergency response Rail cars throughout the system able to speed to any repair point at 250 MPH in a few minutes. Fireproofing, weather proofing and delivery systems for Stations to easily obtain and sell HydrolineÂÂ are also fully planned for.  Conversion to hydrogen power (HydrolineÂÂ) has already been designed for by most major Auto manufacturers.</p>

<p> Racing legend Mario Andretti and other automotive notables announced the formation of &#8220;The Carbon Fiber Club,&#8221; a car enthusiast club whose members save on wheels and tires, performance parts, and even driving at the Mario Andretti Racing Experience. &#8220;I&#8217;ve driven just about every kind of car there is,&#8221; says Andretti. &#8220;So I can tell you that the Carbon Fiber Club offers something for every kind of car enthusiast. If cars are your passion, you need to join this club.&#8221;</p>

<p>The Carbon Fiber Club (CFC) provides members with exclusive deals on car-related purchases. Members get discounts not only on wheels, tires, and performance parts for cars, but also on driving schools, exotic car rentals, race tickets, and other services. &#8220;We leverage our members&#8217; group buying power to get deals,&#8221; explains CFC co-founder Robert P. Minnick. &#8220;We&#8217;re working with some of the biggest names and brands in the auto business. Club members get discounts on the Bondurant School of High Performance Driving, Crutchfield, CEC, Skip Barber Racing School, AutoAnything, Billy Boat Performance Exhaust, Champion Motorsport, and more.&#8221;</p>

<p>&#8220;If you&#8217;re a serious car guy, this is a seriously good deal,&#8221; Minnick says. </p>

<p>Mario Andretti agrees: &#8220;When Robert first told me about the Carbon Fiber Club, my first reaction was &#8216;Why hasn&#8217;t anyone come up with this before?&#8217;&#8221; Andretti, who is Member #0002 of the Carbon Fiber Club, showed off his CFC membership card, made of 100% twill-weave carbon fiber. &#8220;Finally, I have a wallet with some high-performance materials.&#8221;</p>

<p>Mario is one of the &#8220;Founding Car Guys&#8221; of the Club, including Jeff Andretti of Jeff Andretti Coaching, Matt Farah of the Smoking Tire, Roger Garbow of Full Throttle Marketing, Leo Parente, host of  FastLaneDaily&#8217;s ShakeDown auto racing report, Seth Rose of Exotics Rally, Steve Tsuruda, the Team Owner / Principal at Tsunami Racing, and many more.</p>

<p>Uniting the &#8220;Car Guy Nation&#8221;</p>

<p>According to SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association), there are 25 million car enthusiasts in the U.S., who spend  billion a year tuning, restoring, and improving their cars. &#8220;There are millions of us car guys and gals, gearheads, auto enthusiasts &#8211; whatever you call us, we love our cars.&#8221; says Minnick. &#8220;Our mission at the Carbon Fiber Club is to unite car lovers of all kinds &#8211; a &#8216;Car Guy Nation.&#8217; Our goal is to sign up a million members.&#8221; The CFC is offering Charter Memberships, with reduced membership dues, to the first 100,000 to join.</p>

<p>The CFC is the brainchild of Minnick, a successful serial entrepreneur. He has been recognized as the innovator of the gift card format, selling service contracts as a blister-packed membership cards more than 25 years ago. He is also a lifelong car enthusiast. &#8220;I&#8217;ve owned all types of cars, from my first 1962 baby blue MGB convertible, to BMWs, Porsches, Ferraris, Corvettes and Benz&#8217;s,&#8221; says Minnick. &#8220;I&#8217;ve always thought that there had to be a better way for people like me to buy stuff for our cars. When it comes to car enthusiasts, advertising is a waste. You don&#8217;t need to convince our members to buy, because cars are their passion. You don&#8217;t need to sell them a product or tell them what to buy, because they&#8217;ve done their homework. They&#8217;re serious car guys, and they know what they want. We just make sure they get the best deal possible.&#8221; </p>

<p>A New Kind of Social Commerce </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The Carbon Fiber Club is part of the fast-growing private sales business, explains Min Kim, CEO of the club&#8217;s parent company, Meme Networks. &#8220;The Carbon Fiber Club is similar to Gilt.com, but for shocks instead of stilettos. Social commerce and flash marketing sites such as Groupon and ideeli are shaking up the e-commerce world. Meme Networks puts a new twist on these members-only e-commerce sites, by targeting high-spend enthusiast communities.&#8221; Meme&#8217;s strategy is to create private buying clubs for these enthusiast markets. &#8220;What we&#8217;re really doing is creating more efficient markets by bringing together merchants and members without advertising.&#8221; The Carbon Fiber Club is Meme Networks&#8217; first enthusiast site, but it plans to roll out others in the coming year, says Kim. &#8220;We have our sights set on a number of verticals, including motorcycling, hunting, and sailing, that are similar to auto enthusiasts. But with the Carbon Fiber Club, we&#8217;re taking our business model on a test drive.&#8221;</p>
