Sure-Sign Technology Corporation today demonstrated it’s new secure writing technology to biometrics experts gathered at the University of California at San Diego. The new technology dubbed Bioscriptics(tm) is embodied in what looks like an ordinary ballpoint pen – the difference is that this new kind of ballpoint pen embeds patterns into handwriting, which are as unique to the writer as their fingerprint. Sure-Sign’s new technology makes use of a dynamic alteration of traits of their pen’s written mark such that the speed and pressure used in the handwriting and are uniquely characteristic of a user are clearly visible in the handwriting left on the page.
Worldwide economic losses to consumers, business, merchants, credit issuers, and the financial industry resulting from signature fraud will nearly triple to billion in 2003 from .75 billion in 2002. Despite considerable recent effort to protect electronic signatures in on-line dealings, the vast majority of transactions still rely on simple ink and paper. Low cost high-resolution digital imagery has made counterfeiting of signatures, as easy as “click and drag” or in the majority of cases, the low-tech method of tracing a signature is all it takes to effectively undermine businesses and erode profits.
The need for signature protection technology led Sure-Sign Technology to the development of advanced signature security technologies that are convenient enough to use everyday. “WeÂ’ve developed Bioscriptics technology as a mass market consumer security tool which neither materially changes the cost, size or feel of ballpoint the ballpoint pens currently sold in packages of three in retail stores” said Ann Wilimek, Sure-Sign’s Vice President of Technology.
Based in San Diego California, Sure-Sign Technology Corporation is a privately held security products company providing identity security and authentication. For further information on Sure-Sign Technology, visit http://www.sure-sign.com.
